5. CONCLUSION
Additional Information :
The journey of a thousand miles starts with one little step. The idea of establishing a Technological University
in Konkan region as an instrument of economic development was conceived by the Government of Maharashtra
in 1981. As per the recommendations of an Expert Committee, the Government of Maharashtra stablished Dr.
Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University; vide Act No. XXII of 1989. Later, Government of
Maharashtra converted the University to the Affiliating Technological University from the year 2016 vide
Maharashtra Act No. XXIX of 2014 with the jurisdiction of the University as the entire state of Maharashtra.
Presently, 275 institutes are affiliated to the University and the total student strength is more than one lakh. The
distinct character of the University is its state technical university status with entire Maharashtra as its area of
activity. The University attracts meritorious students from the entire state and molds them into employable
engineers and competent technocrats. The University is empowered to affiliate institutions that offer UG , PG
and Ph.D. level programs in the disciplines of Engineering, Pharmacy, Architecture and Hotel Management &
Catering Technology. As an innovative step, this university has introduced a mini project entitled ‘Technical
Project on Community Services’ into the curriculum. The objective of the scheme is to address specific
technical needs and problems of the surrounding rural people and to develop appropriate technologies and
transfer to the farmers, artists, and craftsmen in unorganized sector. Major projects carried out so far includes:
Low-cost mango harvester, Pyrolysis furnace for converting waste grass into coal, Low-cost coconut dehusking devise, snake catcher, and Weed removal device etc.
The University has taken very innovative and bold steps in the direction of promoting academic excellence and
administrative reforms. It is in the process of signing Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) with reputed
academic and industrial organizations public sector enterprises and Non-Governmental Organizations for
academic, administrative, and corporate collaborations.
Concluding Remarks :
Our objective and motivation for applying to NAAC accreditation are to get our strengths assessed and our
weaknesses identified by the peer team. We will try our best to implement the
suggestions which will be given by the peer team after assessment and work to develop and transform this
University as a center of excellence in technical education in the state of
Maharashtra. The main thrust of the University is to develop and provide state-of-art infrastructure and an
excellent academic and research environment to its faculty and students.
Our university always encourages faculty members to initiate research projects and motivates young faculty
members to initiate research by providing them with academic freedom. The Ph.D. thesis evaluation system is
as per the Agrawal Committee recommendations which were recognized in the international conference held in
Dubai. The university has kept pace with the times by introducing the CBCS system, and multidisciplinary and
interdisciplinary programs – courses. It has an efficient and transparent governance system, support for
researchers, clean and green campus, gender friendly atmosphere, ample opportunity for students to hone their
skills in Co-curricular activities, technologically equipped classrooms and laboratories, a state-of-the-art library,
an incubation center titled, “DBATU Forum of Innovation, Incubation & Enterprise” (Section-8 Company)
with support from Maharashtra State Innovation Society, a nodal agency of Govt. of Maharashtra, wellequipped health center with practicing medical professionals, playgrounds. Our university has already started implementing provisions of the NEP 2020.
